Screen printing rewards simple, bold artwork and punishes everything else. Three things decide whether a job runs cleanly.

Colour count is cost. Each colour is a separate screen and a separate set-up, and most promotional products cap screen printing at a handful of colours. A logo with subtle gradients quietly exceeds that limit. FastEditor counts the colours in the upload and checks them against the screen limit configured for the product.

Fine detail has a floor. Hairlines, small text and tight registration between colours fail below the mesh resolution, so line thickness is validated against the product minimum before the customer can approve.

It must be vector, or become vector. Screens are cut from paths, not pixels. FastEditor vectorises any upload, including phone photos, so a raster logo is print-ready without an artworker.

How many colours can screen printing handle?

It depends on the product and the press, but most promotional items cap at a handful of colours because each one is a separate screen. FastEditor counts the colours in the uploaded logo and validates them against the limit configured for that product, offering an automatic reduction where the artwork exceeds it.

Does the customer need to supply a vector file?

No. Screens are cut from paths, so the artwork has to be vector, but FastEditor vectorises any upload automatically, including phone photos and screenshots. The customer never has to find or create a vector file.

What file does the printer receive?

One separated file per ink colour, each at the print area exact dimensions with the artwork scaled to its true size. Channels are named and registered so the screen room can burn screens directly, with no manual separation.

What happens to a logo with gradients or too many colours?

Gradients and excess colours are flagged against the product screen limit before the customer approves. Where possible FastEditor suggests an automatic reduction to the nearest workable spot-colour set, so the incorrect order is never placed.

Can screen printing and another technique run on the same product?

Yes. Each decoration position is processed independently, so a product can be screen printed in one area and embroidered or pad printed in another, each producing its own technique-specific file.

How does this differ from a normal product configurator?
