Methodology

How FastEditor measures artwork automation performance.

This page defines every term, dataset and formula behind the numbers FastEditor publishes, and lists the claim registry that ties each figure to a claim ID. It exists so that no published number stands without a definition, a cohort and a classification.

Data owner: Rick Molenaar. Last reviewed: 13 October 2026, reviewed quarterly. Every figure below is cleared for publication.
Definitions

What each term means.

These definitions are fixed for all FastEditor research. A figure is only published once it maps to one of these terms and one of the three classes below.

Production-ready file
An output file that meets the target supplier's decoration specification for format, colour space, dimensions and resolution, and can be routed to production with no further prepress step. A file that still needs manual work is not counted as production-ready.
File accuracy
The share of generated files that pass automated validation against the target specification on the first attempt, with no manual correction. Expressed as a percentage of files generated in the cohort.
Correction
Any manual intervention applied to a file after generation and before it reaches production. Corrections are counted per order. A lower correction rate means more orders run untouched by a person.
Conversion uplift
The relative change in the share of started personalised orders that are completed, comparing a cohort running the live preview and editor against a baseline without it. Reported as a percentage point change or a relative percentage, stated per figure.
Cost per order
The artwork-handling cost attributed to a single order, combining measured processing time with documented labour rates. Because it applies assumptions to measured inputs, any reduction in cost per order is classified as modeled.
Turnaround
The elapsed time from a customer upload to a routed production-ready file. Reported as a median rather than a mean, so that a small number of slow outliers does not distort the figure.

The three classes

Measured

Computed directly from FastEditor production and event data.

Modeled

Calculated from documented assumptions, such as labour rates and volumes, applied to measured inputs.

Customer-reported

Stated by the customer, not independently measured by FastEditor. Confirmed with the customer before citation.

Datasets

The data behind the numbers.

FastEditor figures are drawn from production and event data across connected resellers and suppliers. The cohorts below are the bases cited in the claim registry.

Included

  • Live production orders and uploads from connected resellers and suppliers.
  • Uploads that reach the artwork pipeline, whatever the source format.
  • The reporting window stated per claim in the registry.

Excluded

  • Internal test and staging uploads, and demo accounts.
  • Duplicate submissions of the same file within a single order.
  • Orders that fall outside the automated pipeline by design, such as bespoke custom work.

Exact cohort date ranges are recorded per claim in the registry.

Metric formulas

How each metric is calculated.

Status: confirmed by the data owner on 13 October 2026. Each formula's assumptions are documented below.

Turnaround (median)

median over included uploads of ( time file routed − time uploaded )

Governs C10, C12. Reported as a median, in seconds.

File accuracy

( files passing validation with no correction ÷ total files generated ) × 100

Governs C03, C14. Reported as a percentage. Denominator: all production-ready files generated in the window.

Correction rate

( orders with at least one manual correction ÷ total orders ) × 100

Governs C04. A reduction is stated relative to a baseline.

Conversion uplift

( ( completion rate with editor − baseline completion rate ) ÷ baseline completion rate ) × 100

Governs C01. Baseline: sessions without the editor as an option, compared with sessions where it is available.

Cost per order (modeled)

reduction = ( baseline cost per order − automated cost per order ) ÷ baseline cost per order ; where cost = processing time × labour rate + per-order handling

Governs C02, C13. Assumptions: €35/hour loaded labour, 12 minutes manual handling per order (€7.00/order), automated cost €1.25/order.

ROI (modeled)

( savings over horizon − cost over horizon ) ÷ cost over horizon × 100

Governs C11. Assumptions: 18-month horizon; representative customer at 1,000 orders/month, €7.00/order saved, €1,250/month fee.

Claim registry

The public claim registry.

Every quantitative claim FastEditor uses, with its cohort, reporting period and class. This is the single source of truth: no number ships on the site without a row here. Every figure below is cleared for publication by the data owner.

Quality controls

How the numbers are kept honest.

  • Every published figure maps to a claim ID in the registry, with its cohort, period and class recorded.
  • Measured, modeled and customer-reported figures are labelled separately and never blended.
  • Files are validated against the target specification automatically before an order is routed to production.
  • Customer-reported figures are confirmed with the customer before they are cited.
  • Each claim carries a review date. Figures past their review date are refreshed or retired.
  • Ratings and reviews are never fabricated to fill a gap.
Limitations

What these numbers do not claim.

  • Cohorts differ by claim. These are production observations, not a single controlled experiment.
  • Modeled figures depend on documented assumptions. Change the assumptions and the result changes.
  • Customer-reported figures reflect the customer's own measurement, not an independent FastEditor audit.
  • Live counts drift over time. Treat any count as accurate as of its stated date.
  • The benchmark reflects the connected reseller and supplier base, not the whole market.
Governance

Who owns these numbers.

The data owner is Rick Molenaar. The data owner signs off every definition, cohort, period and formula before a figure is cleared for publication, and reviews the registry on a rolling schedule.

  • A new claim is added to the registry with its numerator, denominator, segment, date range, source query and review date before it appears on the site.
  • A figure past its review date is refreshed or retired.
  • A claim that cannot be sourced is retired rather than published.
